Take a Position....PLN#3

Lizzie’s presentation on whether or not children should be able to pick what parent they stay with when one gets remarried was really interesting to me, because I was uninformed about her topic and it is now a part of my life. First of I agree with her all the way. Although it is true that kids want to rebel and, even though it is good to see both of your parents if you are unhappy with one you shouldn’t be forced to stay with them. When I watched her presentation it made me think of my life and what it would be like if one of my parents got remarried. I would be at a loss I would want to stay with them but if  I did not like who they were with or even worse if they were abusive to me I would not want to be in that household. I know that not every step parent is abusive but, if they are and your parent can’t see that then they really aren’t good for your family. This should not be a situation that a kid should be forced into. The most interesting part of Lizzie’s project was when I found out there was not an age that you can request to live with strictly one parent. I have grown up thinking that at 15 if my parents split up, or if things got bad I had that right to choose where I wanted to stay. I realize now I obviously didn’t. I agree with Lizzie on her position in the controversial situation 100 percent and I would hope that it will be changed so kids have a choice to get out of a situation and be happier in life.

Assisted Suicide....Legal or Not?

In the book Dr. Death by Jonathan Kellerman,  Mate has been killed using his own killing machine and they are trying to decide weather or not it is okay that he has killed numerous people with their consent and the ability to use medicine. In this book you find out lots of little details but nothing that can lead you to who killed him. Trying to put all the clues together the investigators find out he has killed more people then they had previously thought.  Most of the investigators have decided that he was a killer and so it’s okay or even good that he is dead. One of the main suspects, Mates recent patients husband says “sonofabitch doesn’t deserve a life after he slaughtered my wife.” On the other side all the people who understand that he was doing and it was for the patients are sad he is dead. A few even said they thought about going to him. I personally think it is very sad that he is dead and the fact is everyone that he has helped asked him to kill them. I would have to say even though it’s not a good thing to kill people. He did it for the right reason and I think assisted suicide should be legal becasue they are trying to help the person out of their misery.

The Right to Die.

I have been reading Dr. Death by Jonathan Kellerman to learn more about assisted suicide. As a get farther into the book I find out about all the characters and how few of them think it might actually be okay.  There are only a few people in the book that think he helping his patients by killing them is a good thing and that is mostly the families of the people he has helped. Most people have decided that it was about time for the killer to become the killed. This really stood out to me because I had no idea he was dead. But we found out that just a night or two ago he was hooked up to his own machine to get a taste of his own medicine. I personally think there might be more pros then cons other then someone loosing there life and being illegal it really is just to help people and I would like to learn more about this topic to see if I knew more and saw this through other peoples eyes if I would not see assisted suicide as a bad thing. But for now I’m flipping pages anxiously waiting to see what’s going to happen next with this dead doctor and his killing machines.
